A little bit about me

Hello! My name is Cherry Bearer. I am originally from Taiwan, where I grew up speaking both Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese. I earned my bachelor's degree in English from Tamkang University in Taiwan and my master's degree in Curriculum & Teaching from Michigan State University, specializing in Second Language Acquisition. Currently, I am a Ph.D. candidate in Composition & Applied Linguistics at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Since moving to the United States in 2004, I have worked as a university-level language instructor, teaching Mandarin Chinese and ESL to non-native speakers. Currently, I serve as an adjunct English and ESL instructor at Harrisburg Area Community College in central Pennsylvania. Before joining HACC, I spent four years working as an Assistant Professor of Chinese at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) in Ft. Meade, Maryland.
My family and I live in Mechanicsburg, a small town near Harrisburg in Pennsylvania. Life is busy, but when I do have some time to spare, I enjoy hanging out with my son and watching him play baseball. I hope you'll get to know a bit more about me through this webpage.
